The world’s most experienced urologic oncology robotic surgeon completes 20,000th surgery

On November 11, 2025, Dr. Vipul Patel completed his 20,000th robotic-assisted prostatectomy. Each and every one has provided a unique opportunity to impact the life and health of a patient through robotic surgery treatment and whole-person care.

He is the first surgeon in the world to reach this milestone, marking a historic achievement in robotic-urologic care and establishing him as a leader in minimally invasive prostate cancer treatment.

Patel, Founder of the International Prostate Cancer Foundation and Founder and Executive Director of the Society of Robotic Surgery (SRS), has been operating on patients for nearly 25 years. He is widely recognized as the world’s preeminent prostate cancer surgeon, having completed more robotic prostatectomies than any other surgeon worldwide. Serving also as a leader in training other surgeons and aiming to use this technology to overcome global healthcare inequities — Dr. Patel’s career has focused on using innovation to advance patient care, and this achievement highlights his role in shaping the future of urologic surgery.
